When Tyler and myself started dating two and a half years ago he decided to come and visit me in Norway for a creeking-trip. I remember being a bit concerned, because all I really knew was that Tyler was a playboater, and not so much a creekboater.. I soon realized that I could not have found a better partner on the steep creeks. A month later, and numerous drops, waterfalls, slides and rapids later he went ahead and won the time-trials of the prestigious Sweet Rumble BoaterX on the Sjoa river. He knocked out all the locals, (who of course run the course pretty much every day in the summer) and semi-locals like Allan Ellard, Andy Phillips and Mikey Abbot. People were very surprised to say the least, where did this playboater come from?
That pretty much sums up Tyler. He is good at whatever he is doing, whether it be surfing his home wave Bus-eater in the spring, or creeking with me in Norway in the summer. Being from the Ottawa his big-water feel is amazing, and if we ever find the time to properly train freestyle he is going to become the World Champion. I have never seen anyone with more finesse on the water, combined with going big.
His passion for the sport, and the eagerness of sharing his love for the sport never ceases to amaze me, and lucky for me we want to do the same thing in life: Paddle as much as we can.
