If you happen to be hanging out near a whitewater river in Colorado this summer you will probably run into our friend Lawrance. We are proud to announce that he has just joined the Astral Team. During a recent interview we asked Lawrance about his paddling roots:
I grew up kayaking with my Dad on the Mohaka River near my hometown of
Napier. I soon realised that I loved the thrill of the harder rapids
and by the age of 11 I was paddling the Kaituna River (grade 4). I
quickly developed my freestyle skills and gained a spot on the New
Zealand Freestyle Kayak team at age 12. I competed in my first World
Champs (Spain 2001) when I was 13 and have continued competing from
then on. I now spend my American summers in Colorado, doing more
creeking than freestyle but I still love to get out on the M-wave and
love the afternoon play sessions in the Salida hole. I’m stoked to
become a member of the Astral Militia and represent Astral in the
field.
